Meeting a housing adviser

EHAP has received funding from the Scottish Legal Aid Board to provide free Money Advice to home owners in Edinburgh and Midlothian.

New Scottish Government legislation, the Home Owner and Debtor Protection (Scotland) Act 2010 allows approved lay representatives, for example Money Advisers, to provide representation in court to home owners facing mortgage repossession proceedings.

The advantage of receiving support from an EHAP Money Adviser is that it is completely free, even if you are not eligible for Legal Aid assistance.

EHAP also works closely with the Civil Legal Assistance Office - Edinburgh to provide access to legal advice and representation for all home owners entitled to Legal Aid.

An appointment with an EHAP housing adviser could help you to get to grips with your housing issues.

We provide a range of services including:

• Free impartial face-to-face housing advice
• Offices in a variety of neighbourhood settings - we aim to give you an appointment with an adviser near you
• Preventative focus - our goal is, wherever possible, to help you keep your home
• Accurate up-to-date information on housing policy and legislation relevant to your case
• Sign-posting to other local services which may be able to help you
• Pre-court advice
• Support to help you explore your housing options should a move prove necessary
