Free Legal Advice and Information Services for Edinburgh residents

Edinburgh University Legal Advice Centre

The Free Legal Advice Centre covers a variety of legal issues, from property disputes, contract interpretation, succession issues and the like, to the time constrained cases involving Employment Tribunals and asylum claims.

Open Monday evenings (6-9.30pm) between October and March only. Advice only - they do not provide representation.

CLAO (Civil Legal Assistance Office)

CLAO is a team of solicitors able to assist individuals with civil legal problems who live in Edinburgh and the Lothians.

The service is free but CLAO will only take your case on if you are entitiled to legal aid. If you are not entitled they will refer you to an appropriate local solicitor.

CLAO prefer clients to be referred by advisers. You will need clear details of the issue when you make the referral or contact EHAP and we can make the referral for you.

Scottish Legal Aid Board (SLAB)

SLAB can provide advice on finding a solicitor when you require legal advice and/or representation. They can also advise on whether or not you are likely to be eligible for legal aid.
