Cyrenians Homelessness Prevention Service
Your home is a place of safety, a haven, a base from which you live your life. When you think your home might be taken away from you, for whatever reason, that can be difficult and frightening.
We understand that some of the reasons why your home might be at risk are:
- a difficult situation with your landlord
- relationship with your neighbours
- you and your partner are breaking up/have broken up
- problems getting on with your family
- can't pay your mortgage or have major debt problems
- you aren't accessing all the in work or out of work benefits to which you are entitled.
- Loneliness, isolation and feeling low
- the physical condition of your home - inside and out needs to be improved
- health problems
- you think you are drinking too much or taking drugs to the extent that this is affecting your housing
If you are worried you might lose your home for one or more of the reasons listed, we might be able to help you.
Cyrenians HPS is designed to offer you advice and help to get you through the difficulties you are experiencing.
Our Personal Advisors will:
- listen to what's happening to you
- provide you with support, help and advice to help you deal with the problems you are facing
- accompany you to difficult meetings if you need to
- link you to any other specific services
We will see you on average once a week for up to six months.
Mediation
The Homelessness Prevention Service also has a Tenant and Landlord Mediator who can help you to work out issues that you might be having with your landlord or mortgage lender.
The Service is free regardless of how much you earn, whether you are working, where you live or whether your house is bought or rented.
Mediation offers a safe space where you can have your say and be listened to.
What do mediators do?
Mediators treat what you say as confidential (unless someone is at risk of harm).
- They don't take sides with either the Landlord, Agency or Tenant.
- They don't tell you what to do.
- They help you to work out what you want to happen.
- They support you to talk about difficult matters in a useful way.
- They enable everyone to speak and to be listened to.
