On 24th May Scottish Ministers announced the launch of "Housing: Fresh Thinking, New Ideas", a national discussion on housing priorities. Contributions are being welcomed from the public via a new discussion website.

New Help for Tenants in Rent Arrears
Edinburgh Housing Advice Partnership (EHAP) and Cyrenians Homelessness Prevention Service have joined forces with local Social Landlords in the South West of the City to offer a new service aimed at helping tenants who are struggling with rent payments.

Proposed Reform to the ‘Right to Buy’ for New Tenants
The Scottish Government has published a new Housing Bill, which among other proposals, intends to introduce a restriction on the rights of new social rented sector tenants to buy their home from their social landlord.

Launch of the Orchard and Shipman Letfirst Shop
Orchard & Shipman Letfirst is an assisted private rented scheme designed to encourage and assist people who are having difficulty finding good quality, affordable, accommodation. The scheme, which aims to provide access to private rented properties for up to 300 households in the next year as part of the City of Edinburgh Council's Strategy on tackling homelessness, opened its first Letfirst shop in Morrison Street on Thursday 9th July.

The EHAP website goes live
The Edinburgh Housing Advice Partnership website went live on the 17th July 2009. The aim of the website is to communicate information about the EHAP service to individuals across Edinburgh in order to raise awareness of the work we do. It is also hoped that having an online presence will provide an alternative route to access the services of a housing adviser for those who are at work during the day and therefore unable to contact the central appointments line.
